The photograph you see on a screen and the print you hold in your hand are not the same thing. That is easy to say, but understanding it by living with it is something else.
A print makes a photograph last. It holds light differently, it carries tone differently. When you hang it on a wall you see something different every day — one thing in the morning light, another in the evening. A digital file stays fixed; a good print keeps changing.
On a screen we look at a photograph for a few seconds and move on. A print on the wall, we pass every day. Over time that photograph becomes part of the home.
Having the photographs from the Paris Solitude series standing in a room as prints gives a completely different feeling from seeing them on a screen. I want my photographs to live as objects.
That is why I print my photographs in two ways: reproduction prints on Fujifilm Crystal Archive silver photographic paper, and signed, numbered, limited-edition prints. You can find them all on the Artworks page.
