"Which camera do you use?" I get asked that a lot. I answer, but one thought is always in my mind: it is the wrong question.
In documentary photography the camera is a tool. What matters is knowing what you are looking for in a scene, feeling when you need to wait, being able to choose which frame not to take. None of that comes from the camera.
Changing cameras doesn't change your photographs. Going back to the same street for the fifth, the tenth time does. Your way of seeing settles, and you know better what you are looking for.
From Yemen to Paris, from the Aegean to the Black Sea — the frames I have taken in different places are the product not of the camera, but of the time spent in those places.
