The Journey of a Photograph
From the moment of capture to the finished print, the steps every work goes through.
Step 1
Making the Photograph
Every print begins in the field, with composing the frame. I wait for the light and the moment, so the negative holds everything the later steps will need.Step 2
Developing the Film
The film passes through a sequence of chemical baths in a light-tight tank. Density and contrast take shape here, and the latent image becomes a stable negative.Step 3
Preparing the Negative
The chosen negative is carefully cleaned and placed in the enlarger. Cropping, magnification and contrast are set at this stage.Step 4
Printing in the Darkroom
The enlarger projects the negative onto photographic paper. In the developer the image slowly appears: the moment where light, time and chemistry meet.Step 5
Making Adjustments
The film does not always carry what I felt in the moment. By giving some areas less light and others more, I rebalance the tones and bring the mood of the image forward.Step 6
Drying and Finishing
The print is washed, dried and flattened. Every detail is checked one last time.Step 7
The Finished Print
Carefully packed, the print sets off for its new home.
